Bugger, Exams :(

in general

Unfortunately due to me being taking up with my AS exams an all I haven't had much time to keep this up to date. So what follows is just the plan of action for the summer, roughly speaking.

Party, cause oh my god do exams suck. That and the rowing season has finally finished to somewhat of an anti-climax. 500 meters from the finish of the last race of the year and we're hailed to stop cause a few boats were sinking (4 out of 16, for a 1st VII's race, it was actually quite horrific).

Work Experience for two weeks at Roehampton Uni, with the IT helpdesk. Doesn't actually sound too bad, fix a few WiFi issues here and there, help people with Windows, that kinda thing.

1. "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them past the test?" To a Scottish driving instructor in 1995.

3. When talking to British students in China in 2006, he said: "You shouldn't stay here too long or you'll turn slitty-eyed."

From Windows XP to Ubuntu

in tech

I'm your slightly more than average computer user. An hour or two on weekdays, lots more on the weekend depending on what's going on.

I'm generally on Facebook, this blog or looking around the web for cool sites, I enjoy the occasional gaming session of Team Fortress 2, Portal or WoW on a private server :P

I built my own computer at 14, and it's still running like new today and keeping up with the games as well. Some work gets done on the computer, not much but enough to mention.

5 Tips for Digg Proofing

in web

I'll start off by saying this site has yet to be dugg, however I would go out on a limb and say it is digg proof.

So 5 tips, methods or what ever you want to call them about how to keep you site running even during a huge spike of traffic, also referred to as the digg effect.

1. Get a decent host

If you actually expected your site running on a $5/month shared hosting plan to barge it's way through a link on the digg homepage then mate, you shouldn't be running a site. Use a host that knows what's its doing, looking at popular sites and who hosts them should give you an idea of what you need.

I currently use Media Temple, there good and are used by many many top blogs and sites.
